Junior dos Santos Wants To Test Himself In Boxing After Signing With A Boxing Management Company
Junior dos Santos has opened up on his upcoming transition to boxing.
On Tuesday, it was revealed dos Santos has signed with a boxing management company and for the former UFC heavyweight champion, he’s eager for the challenge. He knows his standup is good and he’s excited to just focus on boxing and test himself in a new sport.
“Even in MMA I was known as a boxing guy – I was always there for the knockout, to stand up and bang,” dos Santos said to Sky Sports. “I would train boxing everyday but jiu-jitsu only three times per week. I consider myself a boxing guy. Now I want to test myself in a real professional boxing fight. There is something different about boxing which is just beautiful. It is a different art. When you do it well? Beautiful. I have always loved boxing. I have trained with the highest-level guys in Brazil like Robson Conceicao. It was always a big dream for myself to do it. But I was having a successful career. Now is the right time. I’m a free agent.”
Junior dos Santos was released from the UFC after losing four straight fights by TKO. However, he still believes he has a lot of fight left in him and is confident he will have success and eventually wants to box the heavyweight best.
“I want to build my way towards the championship. I want to fight the big guys – Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury,” dos Santos said. “Fury is just amazing – I am a big fan of his style. He is so big but moves so well and is so effective. Wilder has more power than Mike Tyson had. I want to do big fights. If, on my way, I have to do entertaining fights against Mike Tyson, for example? I will do that too. It would be great. It would be a unique opportunity and I wouldn’t miss it. I want to fight the best guys. Whatever I have to do to get there, I will do it.”
