Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano Eyed for April 30 At MSG
Talks for female boxing’s biggest fight are nearing an end as a bout between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano is being eyed for April 30.
In a story first reported by BoxingScene.com, Taylor and Serrano are tipped to finally meet after much anticipation. The fight is set to headline Madison Square Garden on April 30th, with Serrano moving from featherweight to challenge Taylor.
According to sources, at least two further titles could find themselves on the line with the potential undisputed status being on the line.
Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano Has Been On The Cards For Some Time
The pair were originally scheduled to face one another in May of 2020 before the Covid-19 ruled out the event from taking place. Attempts to remedy the situation until Serrano recently moved promotional teams did not come to fruition due to disputes between teams.
Serrano has recently seen a surge in her popularity after being featured on Jake Paul’s most recent undercards and being heavily promoted by the social media star. The seven-weight world champion would eventually sign to Paul’s promotional company Most valuable Promotions (MVP). This decision seems to be a good one as Serrano tweeted after her last fight “OMG I JUST REALIZED I’M OFFICIALLY A MILLIONAIRE!! God Is GREAT!!”
Before this, the Puerto Rican has been doing it the hard way in the professional ranks since 2009. Serrano has fought roughly four times every year becoming a world champion in her tenth fight, since then Serrano has won titles from super-flyweight to super-lightweight. Serrano has only lost once in her 44-fight career, also holding 30 knockout wins to her name.
Taylor on the other hand has had a completely different journey to the professional ranks. Taylor was an extremely successful amateur, winning five world championships and an Olympic gold medal while becoming a popular figure in her home country of Ireland.
It was no surprise that when she decided to turn to the professional ranks that she signed a big promotional deal with Matchroom. Since then, Taylor has cemented herself as one of the best if not the best female. Winning a world title in just her fifth fight, Taylor would go on to become a two-weight world champion along with capturing the undisputed title.
