Keith Thurman Willing To Fight Terence Crawford In The Summer
Keith Thurman has put his name in the hat to fight Terence Crawford next.
Crawford is coming off an impressive 10th-round TKO win over Shawn Porter this past weekend to defend his WBO welterweight title.
It was the first time Porter — who later announced his retirement — had been stopped in his professional career.
The attention quickly turned to who Crawford should face next with many in the boxing world hoping for it to be Errol Spence Jr. who holds the WBC and IBF welterweight titles.
However, whether that happens remains to be seen as negotiations have hit roadblocks in the past. Spence also notably left the arena after Porter was knocked down by Crawford the final time.
However, Thurman is willing to step in and fight if Spence isn’t (via Michael Benson).
“I’m going to be getting back in the ring shortly, I’d be more than happy, more than willing, to step in the ring with Bud Crawford next summer,” Thurman said in a recent interview. “I’m willing to fight Crawford eight months from now.”
It would have been a great fight a couple of years ago.
However, Thurman has dealt with a number of injury issues over the years and it remains to be seen if he’ll ever get back to his best.
The former two-belt welterweight champion last competed in June 2019 when he suffered a split decision defeat to Manny Pacquiao to lose his WBA welterweight title.
It was just his second fight since defeating Danny Garcia in March 2017 to become a dual-belt holder at the time. It was also the first defeat of his professional career.
