Kell Brook Is Done Chasing Amir Khan, Wants Terence Crawford Next
Former welterweight champion Kell Brook has finally given up hope of facing long-time rival Amir Khan. ‘The Special One’ is now gunning to fight pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford next.
The 33-year-old has been chasing a fight against his compatriot Khan for what seems like forever. Unfortunately for fight fans the match-up has never came off and it’s starting to look like it never will.
Speaking to Sky Sports Brook revealed he has given up all hope of fighting Khan after chasing the fight for years and consistently being overlooked, he said.
“I’ve given that angle up. There’s no more I can do. It’s gone past the line now. I’ve done everything asked of me to make it happen. And still we’re nowhere.”
Brook says instead of fighting Khan, he’d rather face WBO welterweight champion Crawford who stopped Khan when the pair fought last year.
“The signals we’re getting from Crawford’s team? They want it,” former IBF welterweight champion Brook said. “It’s there to be made. It’s a huge fight. He’s one of the pound-for-pound best fighters. Before I leave this game I want to fight the best out there.”
Todd DuBoef, president of Crawford’s promoters Top Rank, previously told Sky Sports Brook is a fight they’d fancy, he said.
“Brook has made some overtures and had dialogue about the fight and Crawford is interested. Crawford wants to fight Errol Spence Jr or Manny Pacquiao badly but Brook is a possibility.”””
If Brook is unable to secure a fight against Crawford he’s also interested in fighting fellow Englishman Liam Smith, although money could be an issue I putting that bout together.
“I’ll take the fight but when we talk about money it gets sticky, because we’re prize-fighters.”
Who would you rather Kell Brook in his next fight? Amir Khan or Terence Crawford?
