Kid Galahad Opens Up On KO Loss To Kiko Martinez
Kid Galahad has broken his silence after his shocking KO loss to Kiko Martinez in his first title defense and he now vows to get the belt back.
Galahad was in control of the fight against Martinez until he got dropped with a big right hand at the end of the fifth round. Just six seconds into the sixth round, Martinez landed the same punch that knocked Galahad out cold. He lost the IBF featherweight title and the Spaniard became a two-division champion.
Now, after the KO loss, Galahad took to social media to give an update to his fans. He also praised Martinez and his team but he says he vows to get back his title.
“Firstly congratulations to Kiko Martinez and his team on his victory last night,” Galahad wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to everyone who turned out, tuned in and for the many messages and well-wishes I’ve received. It means more to me than you’ll ever know. I am gutted about the loss but I have lost no desire to reach the levels and goals I’ve set in this crazy game called boxing. Thank you to my team, Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing. I’ve been grinding all my life and we aren’t done yet… We will run it back and we keep moving forward!”
Although Kid Galahad did get knocked out, he was easily winning the fight until he wasn’t. With that, perhaps an immediate rematch given it was a big upset, but for Martinez, he doesn’t think it’s an upset at all.
“It may be a surprise for everyone else but not me,” he said. “For the last three years I’ve lived like a monk; no holidays, no time off and no time with my family. I’ve been prepared for this and worked really hard for three years. I’m in better shape than I’ve ever been, better than when I was 20 years of age.”
With the loss, Kid Galahad is now 28-2 as a pro boxer.
