KSI & Tommy Fury: Pair Continue to Heat Fight Up as Show Bodies Off
There is no doubt that influencer boxing continues to create divides among the sport’s community of fans. Many continue to argue that it marks a mockery of the respected tradition, while others will argue it has added something new and made it more attractive.
One thing that looks to be something that is agreed on by both sides (with some finding it easier than others) is that it appears set to stay. There have been bouts in the past that have pleased viewers, and the fight between KSI and Tommy Fury should live up to its billing, especially if everything in the lead up to the upcoming clash is anything to go by.
There has been plenty of entertainment, as both fighters have been engaged in a war of words for ages, while even John Fury – Tommy and Tyson Fury’s father – has upped the ante in various ways with his own words and actions. And, with some time before the fight’s scheduled October 14 date in Manchester, there is still so much going on that is helping to build the hype.
Fight Records
Both fighters will certainly be feeling confident about their chances, as they have built solid records while in the ring. Of course, both have fought at different levels, with Fury being a professional and KSI being an influencer-turned-boxer.
Fury has already managed to put together an unbeaten 9-0 record, having managed to win four of those bouts via knockout. His last outing was in Saudi Arabia when he defeated Jake Paul on points through a split decision. Known as ‘TNT’, the boxer is looking to climb the ranks in the professional scene, but it would appear that opportunities to take out those who come into the sport as non-professionals is appealing to him at the moment. Again, it is also likely that the money side of things is also very rewarding.
KSI has had a number of fights at various levels, although he has had just one professional contest. He did win that bout, as he defeated Logan Paul through a split decision judgement. However, he has had seven fighters across exhibition, professional, and amateur levels, and has a record of 5 wins, 1 draw and 1 no contest. As one of the most experienced and one of the beginners of the concept, he is someone who needs to be respected in the ring.
Who is the favorite?
Given the hype of the fight, it is hardly surprising that sites around the world are offering odds for punters who wish to wager on it. According to the prices being offered on Unibet, a sports betting Canada site, Tommy Fury is expected to overcome the challenge of the influencer. The professional boxer has odds of -420, whereas KSI’s odds are at +290.
Of course, it is important to remember that there are different rules to this contest than traditional boxing encounters, which can have an impact on the odds. For instance, this match is scheduled to last six rounds, while the weight has been set at 183lb. And, with their latest showdown, it would appear easy to understand why so many are favoring Fury…
Fury and KSI show off physiques
Fury already had an advantage in terms of his physique, but it seems he is taking training seriously as he looks in great shape ahead of the upcoming bout. While he stands ever so taller than KSI at 6’0 (the influencer is 5’11), ‘TNT’ also has a greater reach and more experience in the ring.
The fighter has a reach of 80” (203 cm) compared to KSI’s 76” (193cm) reach, while he has boxed 32 rounds in comparison to the influencer’s 23. KSI has shown that he can be heavier when required (193lb being his most), but Fury is comfortable with the 183lb requirement as his usual fight weight is 185lb. The influencer has a better KO success rate, with 50% of his fights ending by way of knockout compared to 44.44% of Fury’s.
Nonetheless, both decided to show off their physiques to get into each other’s heads when things heated up between the pair of them again. KSI began by ripping his shirt off to show how ripped he was and the condition that he was in to make the weight, but this was then followed by John taking his own shirt off and showing his own physique – one that is not quite fight-ready.After his dad did this, Tommy showed everyone what he was looking like underneath. It is argued that he could still have some weight to drop, but there is no doubt ‘TNT’ has the advantage and it is unsurprising that he is the favorite to win on October 14 in Manchester.
