Leigh Wood Believes TKO Over Josh Warrington Was His Best Win
Leigh Wood wasn’t impressed with his TKO win over Josh Warrington over the weekend.
Wood defended his title by stopping Warrington in the seventh round in a fight he was losing up until then. Wood thought the weight cut had an impact on his performance, but he was glad to still get the win.
Following the victory, Leigh Wood said it wasn’t his best performance but believes it was the best win of his career.
“You know, not my best performance,” Wood stated during his post-fight press conference (h/t BoxingScene). “I did feel a bit groggy making the weight, and I’ve got no excuses. … But that fight aside, you know, that was my best win. Josh is a two-time world champion, massive scalps on his record. Without a shadow of a doubt, I’m the only Brit to beat him. He’s a great fighter, um, definitely my best scalp. And if we do it again, we do it again. If not, you know, I’d like a new challenge, but we’ll see.”
With the win over Warrington, Wood improved to 28-3 as a pro and is now on a two-fight win streak. Prior to the victory over Warrington, he scored a decision win over Mauricio Lara. Wood also holds notable wins with Michael Conlan, Ryan Doyle, and David Oliver Joyce among others.
As of right now, it’s uncertain when and who Wood will fight next but he is looking to have a much better weight cut and performance next time out.
Do you think that was Leigh Wood’s best performance of his career?
