Luis Ortiz Wants To Avenge Loss To Deontay Wilder Should He Beat Andy Ruiz
Luis Ortiz is hoping to avenge his losses to Deontay Wilder.
Ortiz and Wilder first met in 2018 with Wilder winning by 10th round TKO. The two then had a rematch in 2019 and through six rounds, many thought Ortiz was pitching a shutout. Yet, in the seventh round, Wilder landed a massive punch that knocked out Ortiz.
Still to this day, Ortiz has only ever lost to Wilder and he is now set to meet Andy Ruiz Jr. on September 4 and the hope for the 43-year-old Cuban is to get the trilogy with Wilder with a win.
“He’s not 100% sure if PBC is lining that up,” Ortiz’s longtime trainer Herman Caicedo said of his charge in an interview with FightHype.com. “That’s what it looks like. If I had to guess, I would say probably. You never know. If I had to guess, like Luis just said, he would fight anybody. He’s a real fighter, a real old school fighter…
“At the end of the day, if they told him tomorrow to fight Wilder 40 times every week then it’s going to be every week with him and Wilder going at it,” Caicedo added. “He has no whatsoever hangups of having to fight Wilder three, five, or 10 times. It’s what he does for a living and what he will do until he can be heavyweight champion of the world, which is still his main focus and his driving force to all this.”
Deontay Wilder has not fought since he suffered a KO loss to Tyson Fury in the trilogy and he had hinted he would be retiring. Yet, recently he said he would be coming back but it is uncertain who he will fight in his return but the winner of Ortiz vs. Ruiz does make sense.
Who would you like to see Deontay Wilder fight in his return to boxing?
