Luis Ortiz’s Trainer Believes Deontay Wilder KO’s Andy Ruiz Jr.
Luis Ortiz’s trainer Herman Caicedo believes Deontay Wilder not just beats Andy Ruiz Jr. but knocks him out if they end up fighting.
After Ruiz Jr. beat Ortiz by decision on Sunday night, many thought he would face Wilder next. The two have been linked to one another for a long time and both have mentioned it makes sense if they both win, as Wilder is set to face Robert Helenius in October.
“If Deontay wins in October, me and him are with the same management and we can make this fight happen,” said Ruiz Jr. after the win. “Let’s get it on. I’m hungry and I want to be champion again and bring that belt back to Mexico.”
Wilder, meanwhile, said he is back and is interested in that fight.
“Deontay Wilder is back and looking for great, exciting fights to give the fans,” Wilder said. “If that’s what the fans want, let’s do it.”
With both Andy Ruiz Jr. and Deontay Wilder wanting the fight to happen, Ortiz’s trainer in Caicedo is confident Wilder would get his hand raised. He believes Ruiz Jr. has to solely rely on his power to win, as he even thinks with three knockdowns Ortiz was able to make the fight close on the cards.
“He got caught early a few times, cold a couple times,” said Caicedo to FightHype.com. “One shouldn’t have been a knockdown, it was a push but legitimate two knockdowns, absolutely. Even with those knockdowns, the fight was close.”
With Caicedo not being too impressed with Andy Ruiz Jr., when he was asked if he thinks the Mexican could win, he shook his head and gave a clear-cut prediction for the potential fight.
“Wilder’s gonna knock him out,” Caicedo concluded.
