Manny Pacquiao Expects To Fight Twice In 2021
Manny Pacquiao is hoping to make the most of 2021.
The soon to be 42-year-old didn’t fight at all in 2020 but in 2019 fought twice and beat Adrien Broner and Keith Thurman to win the WBA (super) welterweight title. Since the win, many have talked about Pacquiao being potential opponents for Bud Crawford, Errol Spence Jr., or Shawn Porter. Regardless of the opponent, he is looking to be active in 2021.
“We still have sessions in March so there’s no way I am going to fight during that time,” Pacquiao told Daily Tribune (via boxingscene). “I think I can do two [fights] next year.”
Although Manny Pacquiao wants to compete twice in 2021, Choi Garcia, one of Pacquiao’s aides, doesn’t know if that happens. He believes the boxer wants to compete in front of fans so both of the fights need to have a crowd in place.
“I just don’t see him fighting without any crowd involvement,” Garcia said. “He draws energy from the crowd. No one knows when his next fight will be.”
If Pacquiao doesn’t get the Crawford fight, Mikey Garcia has been vocal over the fact he wants the fight. And, even though he lost to Spence Jr., it does make sense. However, many also point to Conor McGregor as a potential opponent for Pacquiao.
“I saw the tweets from McGregor, but I haven’t seen any from Pacquiao. Are there any responses from Pacquiao yet? I haven’t seen any,” Garcia told Fight Hype. “Manny Pacquiao’s next fight is not Conor McGregor. Manny Pacquiao’s next fight is with me. So McGregor has to take a number. McGregor’s next fight might be against Manny Pacquiao, but before that, Manny Pacquiao has to fight me first, and that’s 100 percent.”
When Manny Pacquiao will return is uncertain at this point.
