Marco Antonio Barrera Set To Face Erik Morales For A 4th Time On July 16
Following in the footsteps of Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr, Erik Morales and Marcus Antonio will return to the boxing ring after extended layoffs.
This will be the 4th time the two Mexican greats have clashed in the ring, with each of their previous fights being exceedingly close and exciting bouts. It was Morales who picked up the decision victory the first time they fought. However, Barrera came back defeated Morales in both the subsequent rematch and then also the rubber match.
The 4th contest looks set to take place on July 16th, and will be fought over six rounds. However, there no further details yet released, with the rules of the bout and location of the event still to be announced.
Speaking with ESPN Deportes, Erik Morales stated the following:
“We are very happy to be able to get back in the ring. Barrera was a great opponent for me in my career, we had three fights, two of them were the best [fights] of the year, and we are just finalizing some things. In a few days we will have the venue and see if we are going to use head gear or not. What has been decided is that it will be six rounds” (via Boxing Scene).
Morales and Barrera have not competed professionally for some time now. Barrera, now at the age of 47. has been out of action since 2011. Morales, aged 44, has only fought slightly more recently, having defeated Danny Garcia by KO in 2012.
