Mauricio Lara Open To Going Back To England To Rematch Leigh Wood Or Have Trilogy Match Against Josh Warrington
Mauricio Lara is open to fighting in England again in his next fight.
Lara picked up a seventh-round TKO win over Leigh Wood on Saturday night in England and after the win, he said he would be open to returning to England for the rematch. Or, he says he would also have the trilogy match with Josh Warrington in England as well as the Mexican has had a ton of success there.
“As I’ve said, it’s almost like my second home here,” Lara said backstage. “And, you know, thank God people applauded me and welcomed me really well. So, no problem.”
Wood did have an immediate rematch clause in his contract but according to his promoter, Eddie Hearn, Lara may face Warrington next and the winner will face Wood. Lara, meanwhile, is open to whatever his manager and Hearn think.
“Right now, I’m tired,” Lara said. “I wanna spend some time with my family. It’s been a really long training camp. And, you know, whatever my manager says, whatever Eddie Hearn says. You know, I’m ready for it. I’ll take anything on.”
Mauricio Lara (26-2-1) has fought in England three times and is 2-0-1 as he has wins over Wood and Warrington in the rematch while the first time they fought it was a draw. The Mexican has had a ton of success in England which is why he is fine continuing to go into enemy territory to face Wood or Warrington again next time out.
Lara also won the WBA featherweight title with the win over Wood which he says means a ton for him.
“It means a great deal,” Lara said. “You know, it comes from hard work, dedication. I came here with a suitcase of dreams and it means, you know, a great deal. It’s almost like I’ve been carrying a huge weight, a burden, a stone on my back. And this is for Mexico, and this is also for my family and my daughter.”
