Michael Conlan Deciding On New Trainer For Final Run At Glory
Michael Conlan will be looking for a new coach ahead of what he says is his final chance at glory.
Conlan is coming off an upset TKO loss to Jordan Gill back in December after a TKO loss to Luis Alberto Lopez as he’s on a two-fight losing streak. It has been a disappointing stretch for Conlan who says has been trying out new trainers.
“I’ve been trying out a few coaches over the past few days,” Conlan said to BoxingScene. “I’m with Stephen at the minute, I’ve tried Grant Smith and I’ve tried Buddy McGirt again… I’m going to take some time before I make a decision.”
Although Michael Conlan doesn’t have his next fight booked, he is hoping he can return on the Jaron Ennis undercard in Philadelphia against whoever.
“I’ve said, for the first one back, if ‘Boots’ [Ennis] fights in Philadelphia again, put me on the undercard of that, I’ll sell a load of tickets – there’s a big Irish community in Philly,” Conlan said. “Put me on somewhere out of the way, where I can go back, work on things, work on new things, not fight world champions or potential world champions right away. I want to get back in, get the job done and then move on to the next, and we will plan from there.”
Michael Conlan is 18-3 as a pro and before the back-to-back losses, he scored a TKO win over Karim Guerfi and a decision win over Miguel Marriaga to return to the win column after losing to Leigh Wood by TKO for his first loss.
Conlan is the former WBA interim featherweight champion and holds notable wins over TJ Doheny, Vladimir Nikitin, and Jason Cunningham among others.
