Mike Tyson Allegedly Turns Down $25M Evander Holyfield Fight Offer

Mike Tyson has apparently turned down a guaranteed $25 million offer to complete his trilogy of fights with Evander Holyfield.

‘Iron Mike’ returned to the boxing ring for the first time in 15 years when he fought Roy Jones Jr. to a draw on November 28.

Holyfield announced his own ring return in 2020. The four-time heavyweight champion hasn’t fought since 2011 when he knocked out Brian Nielsen inside ten rounds.

In 1996 Holyfield pulled off a huge upset to stop Tyson in 11 rounds. One year later the pair fought again in one of the most controversial bouts of all time, as Tyson was disqualified for biting off a piece of Holyfield’s ear in the third round.  

The pair seemed set to fight for a third time, however things appear to have fallen apart during the negotiation period.

Holyfield’s representatives have revealed Tyson’s financial demands became too much and they were forced to back out of fight talks when several big offers where turned down by Tyson’s team.

“We thought this was a done deal but it quickly fell apart when Tyson’s people declined all offers,” Holyfield’s manager, Kris Lawrence, said in a statement Monday. “We were negotiating in good faith all along and it appears we just ended up wasting our time.” (Transcribed by ESPN)
