Mike Tyson: Anthony Joshua Telegraphs His Punches, Recipe For Disaster Against Tyson Fury
Anthony Joshua’s telegraphed punches could land him in trouble against Tyson Fury according to former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.
Joshua is set to defend his heavyweight titles against Kubrat Pulev on December 12. Should he get past the Bulgarian, “AJ” will be in line for a highly-anticipated title unification clash with domestic rival and WBC champion Fury next year.
It’s a matchup the entire boxing world has been eagerly awaiting for a few years now as it’s more likely to happen in the near future than ever before provided both fighters get through their next test.
And it appears Tyson is leaning towards the unbeaten Fury should it take place — given how he feels Joshua’s punches can be seen coming.
“Joshua’s a masterful puncher, but you can see his punches coming,” Tyson told Eddie Hearn on the Full No Passion No Point podcast (via Michael Benson). “He telegraphs his punches, that’s just a recipe for disaster if you’re fighting Fury.
“Telegraphing your punches for a guy who’s 6ft 7ins? Come on.”
Despite Joshua’s rising popularity in the United Kingdom the last few years, Tyson also believes Fury is the current people’s champion with all the momentum he has gained since his comeback in 2018.
It culminated in “The Gypsy King” TKOing Deontay Wilder in emphatic fashion to win the WBC crown in February this year.
“Tyson Fury is the fans’ fighter,” Tyson added. “The fans are in love with him, he has the momentum now. In England, Anthony Joshua is a big thing.
“But Fury, he’s got the people now. That’s the truth. They’re following him like he’s the messiah.”
One thing is for sure — a Joshua vs. Fury title unification clash promises to be the biggest boxing event for quite some time.
