Mike Tyson Believes Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou Won’t Be As One-Sided As People Think
Mike Tyson believes Francis Ngannou will have more success against Tyson Fury than people think.
Ngannou is set to box Fury in October in Saudi Arabia in a highly-anticipated fight. It’s a massive fight as Ngannou has been clear he has wanted to box in the past and after fighting out his UFC deal, he gets his chance against Fury.
Although Ngannou will be a massive betting underdog, he has enlisted Mike Tyson in his camp and the former heavyweight champ believes Ngannou will make it a much closer fight than people think.
“He’s had many professional fights, but he’s never experienced a professional boxing match,” Tyson told First Take (h/t BoxingScene). “But by working with him yesterday, he has the aptitude, and I see a good future in this life. It’s not going to be as one-sided as people think it is. I was speaking with Francis once he came in and I asked him ‘Are you sore today?’, and he said ‘No’. That was a big mistake. But, we’re going to work and we’re going to exert everything he has for this particular match. I definitely believe that it’s going to be a tougher fight than anyone thinks.”
If Francis Ngannou can make the boxing match against Tyson Fury competitive, it would be big for the former UFC heavyweight champion.
Ngannou, meanwhile, is entering the fight on a long layoff as he hasn’t fought since January 2022 when he defended his UFC heavyweight title. Since then, he has dealt with a knee injury and waited for his UFC contract to expire so he could go to free agency. In free agency, he signed with PFL MMA and got the boxing match against Fury.
