Mike Tyson Wants To Fight Holyfield, Lewis & Fury Before Retiring
Mike Tyson, has revealed the three opponents he wants to face in exhibition bouts before he once again retires from the sport.
‘Iron Mike’ returned to the boxing ring for the first time in 15 years when he fought Roy Jones Jr. to a draw on November 28.
He is expected to square off against Evander Holyfield next. Tyson claims May 9 is the date for that fight but as of right now, no official announcement has been made and Team Holyfield have publicly claimed negotiations have come to a standstill.
Tyson recently revealed who he wants to fight before retiring for a second time.
“I want Holyfield and I want Lennox Lewis this year,’ Tyson revealed on his Hotboxin’ Podcast. “I want both of them, I want to get them both this year. I also want to box an exhibition with Tyson Fury.
“If I do that – even if I can get those two guys [Lewis and Holyfield], I’ll say, “This is a wrap, I’m just gonna live life,” Tyson added. “And that’s just exhibitions. I’m gonna break all my professional true records with exhibitions.”
In 1996 Holyfield pulled off a huge upset to stop Tyson in 11 rounds. One year later the pair fought again in one of the most controversial bouts of all time, as Tyson was disqualified for biting off a piece of Holyfield’s ear in the third round.
‘Iron’ went on to challenge Lennox Lewis for the WBC, IBF, IBO and Ring Magazine belts in 2020. He lost via KO in round eight.
Tyson Fury is arguably the best heavyweight fighter in boxing today. ‘The Gypsy King’ holds the WBC and Ring Magazine belts. He became the first man to beat Deontay Wilder, stopping ‘The Bronze Bomber’ inside seven rounds last year. Fury is expected to square off against Anthony Joshua for all the heavyweight belts this summer.
