Mikey Garcia: Manny Pacquiao’s Next Fight Is Me Not Conor McGregor

Four-division world champion Mikey Garcia has claimed that he not UFC superstar Conor McGregor is the man who will be fighting Manny Pacquiao next.

McGregor who is currently retired from fighting announced over the weekend that he is set to face off against boxing legend Pacquiao. A spokesperson from the Filipinos camp later told reporters that the pair will partake in a charity boxing match with the proceeds going to help people impacted by COVID-19 in the Philippines.

“For the sake of all the Filipino Covid-19 victims, Senator Manny Pacquiao will be fighting UFC superstar Conor McGregor next year. The huge portion of his earnings will proceed to those who are affected nationwide by the pandemic,” Pacquiao’s office said.

Speaking to Fight Hype Garcia was emphatic in saying McGregor will not be fighting Pacquiao before him.

“I saw the tweets from McGregor, but I haven’t seen any from Pacquiao. Are there any responses from Pacquiao yet? I haven’t seen any,” Garcia said. “Manny Pacquiao’s next fight is not Conor McGregor. Manny Pacquiao’s next fight is with me. So McGregor has to take a number. McGregor’s next fight might be against Manny Pacquiao, but before that, Manny Pacquiao has to fight me first, and that’s 100 percent.”

If a fight between McGregor and Pacquiao does take place somewhere down the road Garcia says he will be tuning in.

“How did they do Mayweather-McGregor? It’s entertainment, and it’s business, so why not?” he said. “I’ll watch it. It’s entertainment. Why do people watch WWE? It’s entertainment. Why do people watch the really bad fights out there? It’s entertainment. Manny Pacquiao’s next fight is with me. That’s going to happen, watch. It won’t be this year. It’ll be next year.”

Garcia was last seen in the ring earlier this year. The Mexican fighter outpointed Jessie Vargas over 12 rounds in February to claim the vacant WBC Welterweight Diamond belt. Before that, he suffered the first and only loss of his professional career when he faced off against Errol Spence.
