Mikey Garcia Wants Josh Taylor Fight But Acknowledges Obstacle: ‘He’s With Top Rank’

Mikey Garcia

Mikey Garcia is more than down to fight Josh Taylor. But it’s not entirely up to him.

Garcia is looking for his next big fight and being a former 140-pound champion, the American would love to fight current unified super lightweight champion Josh Taylor who is eyeing up his next move himself.

There’s just one problem — Garcia is represented by PBC while Taylor is aligned with Top Rank.

“Taylor would be a great matchup,” Garcia recently told FightHype.com (via Boxing Scene). “I just have to remind you that he’s with Top Rank.”

PBC and Top Rank have not had the best negotiating history while Garcia was a former Top Rank fighter himself with no love lost between the two parties.

In the end, politics will always impact the boxing matchups fans want to see.

“When has a fighter said ‘no’ to a good fight?” Garcia added. “Every fighter wants to fight the good fights. But you have to remind people that there’s a business side to it, where a promoter looks at the business side of it, before legacy and the interest of the fighter.

“He looks at the business first. The managers do the same, the networks. You gotta go through a bunch of other things to determine whether a fight is possible or not.”

However, a fight with former 140-pound title-holder Regis Prograis seems much more likely for Garcia.

Who do you want to see Garcia face next?
