Nate Robinson Releases Statement Following KO Defeat To Jake Paul
On Saturday night, NBA star Nate Robinson fought YouTuber Jake Paul at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Their bout was the co-main event to the comeback of the legends bout between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr.
From the start of round one, both Robinson and Paul did a great deal of tying up with one another. In one instance, Robinson ended up rushing in on Paul about two minutes into the round, in order to attempt a tie up with Paul, but was caught with a vicious overhand right.
Robinson was floored by the punch, but beat the ten count, and the action continued. No more than three seconds pass once the action continued, before Robinson is thrown to the floor.
The NBA star was again attempting a tie up, but he fell to the canvas face first, and he got up relatively early for the ten count prior. It seemed as if he didn’t want any more of the fight right then and there.
Seconds pass, and the round ends. Round two starts, Paul opens up with a jab, before Robinson threw a left hook, right uppercut, then tied up with Paul. Robinson tried to commit once again when they were separated, but was once again floored by that overhand right of Paul.
Robinson was down a little longer for this one, but was still up to beat the ten count. No more than three seconds later after the action resumed, Paul KO’d Robinson with another overhand right.
It was the same punch all three times that Robinson couldn’t take. The overhand right caught him clean every time, when he or Paul wasn’t initiating the tie-ups. Robinson certainly tried to tie up more often than Paul, but they’re both guilty in that regard.
There’s no shame in that though, that’s part of boxing. Paul did have one fight coming into this one, where he TKO’d his opponent in round one, that certainly aided him. He didn’t shy away if he was hit, but Robinson however did show a serious discomfort in being hit.
The first two overhand rights dropped him, and the third shut his lights out entirely. The former New York Knicks, along with many other NBA teams star had the following to say via Instagram regarding his fight on Saturday:
“Thank you everyone for all of the well wishes. I’m OK. I appreciate @thriller for the opportunity as well as everyone that has backed me during the fight.
“To my coaches, trainers, fans, and teammates, I appreciate all of the time and support you guys put in with me….it wasn’t the outcome that we wanted, but I’m thankful for the opportunity to fight on the biggest stage that there has been. #holdat”
Jake Paul improves to 2-0 with two knockouts following his victory over Robinson.
