Oleksandr Gvozdyk Is Ready To Test Himself Against David Benavidez: ‘One Of The Most Avoided Fighter’
Former WBC light-heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk is excited to fight David Benavidez on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Gvozdyk is taking on Benavidez who is moving up to 175lbs for the fight. It’s a big fight, and heading into the scrap, Benavidez is the betting favorite, and Gvozdyk is excited to test himself against Benavidez who he says is one of the most avoided fighters in boxing.
“Well, this is what I think, because he’s a big guy – he also said that at 175 he feels more comfortable but we will see,” said Gvozdyk. “Oh I rate him very high because he’s one of the best in boxing. He’s a ‘Monster’ and he’s becoming one of the most avoided fighters not for no reason. If he would be like a piece of cake, everyone would like to fight him. But for some reason, nobody is, so he’s obviously one of the best fighters in boxing.”
However, heading into the fight, people are already hoping to book Canelo Alvarez vs. David Benavidez. Whether that means people are overlooking Gvozdyk is uncertain, but he says he will show everyone on Saturday that he will ruin those plans.
“Maybe,” he said. “I don’t know. We will see on Saturday… It gave me three years of rest. I’m ready to go again. At 37, I hope you will see my best on Saturday.”
Oleksandr Gvozdyk, meanwhile, is 20-1 and is coming off a KO win over Isaac Rodriguez. He had lost his belt back in 2019 to a TKO loss to Artur Beterbiev. In his career, he holds notable wins over Doudou Ngumbu, Adonis Stevenson, and Ricards Bolotniks.
