Oleksandr Usyk’s Promoter Reveals The Possible Locations For Anthony Joshua Rematch
After Oleksandr Usyk defeated Anthony Joshua by decision in September, the former heavyweight champion immediately triggered the automatic rematch clause.
Usyk and Joshua will likely box sometime in the first half of 2022, with it more likely to be in the first quarter. Although the fight is set to happen next, the location is unknown but for Usyk’s promoter in Alexander Krassyuk, revealed there are three locations in play for the rematch.
“We plan to meet with Eddie Hearn within the next couple of weeks to initiate the rematch activities,” Krassyuk told Sky Sports. “We have three options under consideration: the UK, Ukraine and the Middle East. Hopefully by the end of 2021, we will be in the position to take the final decision.”
Those three locations are what many figured they’d be as Usyk is from Ukraine, Joshua is from the UK and the Middle East has always been in play to host massive boxing fights as they spend a ton of money to host them.
Although many fans aren’t keen on seeing Usyk and Joshua rematch given how one-sided the fight was, Usyk’s promoter doesn’t care. They did have 30-days to possibly work out a fight with Tyson Fury but they knew that was never going to happen with Joshua having the rematch clause.
“Not at all. We were 100 percent aware of the rematch clause, we gave our word and signed it on paper. There is no space for frustration, as things are going the way we planned them to go,” Krassyuk said. “Tyson has to prove his championship position by going through the mandatory. But this is up to him and his team. On our side, we keep focus on the rematch as the No 1 option.”
