Oleksandr Usyk’s Trainer Is Confident They Would Beat Tyson Fury
Oleksandr Usyk’s team is very confident they will remain undefeated and hand Tyson Fury his first career loss if they are to fight.
Usyk vs. Fury is arguably the biggest fight in boxing as it would also unify the heavyweight division. However, the fight has yet to come to fruition due to multiple reasons, but the hope is, that it happens in 2023 as both men have been vocal in saying they want it.
If the bout happens, Usyk’s trainer Sergey Lapin, is confident Usyk would beat Fury even though he is smaller.
“We came to London to watch Fury and Derek Chisora. We watched Fury up close at ringside with great interest. Our team highlighted many interesting moments from this fight,” Lapin told Vegas Insider. “There are many subtleties that you won’t see on TV, for example, the work of the team, the connection between a boxer and his coach. Whether the boxer follows the instructions of the trainer or not. There are weaknesses. After seeing Fury in the flesh, our team is even more confident that Usyk will prevail and become undisputed and bring that WBC green belt home to Ukraine. The threat that Fury poses is no greater and no tougher than Anthony Joshua. We know how that ended for Anthony. We are very confident of beating Fury.”
Oleksandr Usyk (20-0) is coming off back-to-back decision wins over Anthony Joshua to win and defend the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles. Prior to moving up to heavyweight, he was the former undisputed cruiserweight champion. In his career, he holds notable wins over Derek Chisora, Tony Bellew, Michael Hunter, and Marco Huck among others.
