Oscar De La Hoya: Eddie Hearn Ruined Anthony Joshua’s Career
Oscar De La Hoya believes Eddie Hearn has done more harm to the boxing career of Anthony Joshua than good.
Joshua recently suffered the second loss of his pro boxing career. He dropped the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Titles To Oleksandr Usyk via unanimous decision. Joshua will likely get a rematch as he can exercise a clause.
De La Hoya recently unleashed a rant on Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn during a live stream (h/t Daily Star).
“Joshua versus Usyk, which nobody saw in the US because…what’s the promoter that doesn’t know how to…that has no clue of what to do in the US? I think his name is Hearn or something.
“Yeah, [Eddie] Hearn, [Eddie] Hearn…stay in the UK. Promote your fights. You have no clue what you are doing in the US. DAZN is doing the right thing by sticking with Golden Boy. Stay away from the US. He does not know how to promote in America. Usyk crowned himself world champion and Eddie Hearn ruined Joshua’s career.”
It’s possible that Oscar De La Hoya still harbors a grudge with Matchroom Boxing over the new cozy partnership with Canelo Alvarez. Canelo once competed under Golden Boy Promotions but was able to split from De La Hoya following a brief legal dispute. Canelo has done business with PBC to fight Caleb Plant, but he is all in with Hearn.
Both Golden Boy Promotions and Matchroom Boxing have made DAZN their networking home but there is certainly no love lost here.
Before the Usyk fight, Anthony Joshua signed a career-long contract with Matchroom. It’s a huge deal for the two sides but if Joshua can’t get the job done in a rematch with Usyk, his run as a top heavyweight in the sport of boxing could come to a close suddenly.
