Oscar De La Hoya Hints At Super Bowl Card Featuring Haney, Stevenson, Garcia, And Lopez Among Others
Oscar De La Hoya is hoping to make a massive Super Bowl weekend boxing card.
The Super Bowl is one of the biggest sporting events on the calendar, but Saturday is wide open for an event, given the game is on Sunday night. With the game happening in Vegas this year, De La Hoya is interested in holding a massive Super Bowl card at The Sphere that features some of the best fighters in boxing.
“I was at the sphere opening, and I cannot tell you how f——- amazing it is,” De La Hoya posted in a video to his Instagram. “Imagine Super Bowl weekend, the Super Bowl of boxing. Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez or even Devin Haney, [or] the winner of [Regis] Prograis [vs Haney]. Then on the undercard, you have Shakur vs. William Zepeda. And then to top it all off, Jaime Munguia versus Derevyanchenko or maybe [Edgar] Berlanga. And to open it up you have Kid Austin versus Jo Jo Diaz. The Super Bowl of boxing. Let’s do this!”
Although Oscar De La Hoya doesn’t represent all those boxers, he is calling all the promoters to come together to make a legendary card on Super Bowl weekend to save boxing.
“Promoters, Eddie Hearn, Al Haymon, Bob Arum, whoever is out there, let’s come together,” De La Hoya said. “I’m calling you out. Let’s come together. Let’s meet. The power of the minds and come up with something, because boxing can die. I’m calling you all out. Let’s do this.”
Whether or not it will happen is to be seen, but it would be a very cool idea if it does. It would be arguably the biggest boxing event ever and would draw a ton of eyes that haven’t watched boxing in years.
Do you think this Super Bowl weekend card will happen?
