Oscar De La Hoya Says He’ll Need Good Chin To Get By Vitor Belfort
Oscar De La Hoya claims he looks like his old self ahead of his return fight against Vitor Belfort.
De La Hoya has been teasing a return for quite some time and will face the former UFC champ on Sept. 11 in a Triller PPV event. Although De La Hoya fought at 147lbs, while Belfort was at 205lbs and 185lbs, De La Hoya says he has a good game plan to get inside and beat the Brazilian.
“He’s a big guy, man. I don’t know what I got myself into, he’s a big guy,” said De La Hoya (via BoxingScene). “So we’ll see, I’ve got a good chin so I have to work the body, I have to use my speed and then be on my toes and stick the jab. I got a nice game plan for him, so we’ll see … I have to look like my old self before I fought [Manny] Pacquiao [in 2008] before getting drained into fighting at 147.”
According to De La Hoya, the fight has a maximum weight of 175 pounds and the bout will take place in 12-ounce gloves. For De La Hoya, he says he will come in at 170lbs and expects to be in very good shape and beat Belfort in his return match.
“I’ll come in at 170, fast, strong. I’ve got my chin, so if he hits me, okay, I’m coming forward. You better be in shape. No trainer, but I’m actually thinking of calling Floyd Mayweather Sr. to train me. He was the one to bring the best out of me,” said De La Hoya. “Look, I’ve pretty much accomplished everything one has to accomplish in boxing. I want to make the biggest comeback in the history of the sport.”
