Oscar De La Hoya Says Ryan Garcia Wants To Fight The Best
Oscar De La Hoya knows Ryan Garcia isn’t afraid of anyone and is willing to fight anyone.
Garcia is set to box Devin Haney on April 20 in a highly-anticipated bout. Garcia is looking to pick up another big win after he KO’d Oscar Duarte to return to the win column after a loss to Gervonta Davis. Although some boxers would have tried to build themselves back up after the loss to Davis, De La Hoya is proud that Garcia is after the biggest fights possible.
“He is willing to fight the very best,” De La Hoya told Beto Duran on Tuesday’s Golden Boy livestream (via BoxingScene). “We had an era where everybody was fighting everybody. I made it, I built it, basically. Now, we are going back to that era… This is what it is all about – the best fighting the best. The business follows. The money will follow. … If you become a fighter that is marketable, a fighter who is fighting the best, a fighter who is willing to risk their [undefeated record], then the money will follow you.”
Garcia is entering the fight against Haney as the underdog, but De La Hoya says that doesn’t play any factor as Garcia is always ready to fight and can KO anyone.
“You always get a Ryan that is ready to fight, ready to go to war and ready to fight the best,” De La Hoya said.
Ryan Garcia enters the fight with a record of 24-1 and coming off the KO win over Duarte, and before that, he lost to Gervonta Davis. He also holds notable wins over Javier Fortuna, Emmanuel Tagoe, Luke Campell, and Francisco Fonseca among others.
