Otto Wallin Planning To Get Back Into Heavyweight Title Mix
Otto Wallin knows he has to get back on track to get back into the heavyweight mix.
Wallin is coming off a stoppage loss to Anthony Joshua back in December, which was a big fight for the Swede. Wallin was dominated for the entire fight and he says it was a tough loss to deal with.
“It was a tough loss,” Wallin said (h/t BoxingScene). “It was tough. I felt pretty down after, thinking about things. But I had a few weeks off, then I started training again, feeling better and I feel like I understand where I’m at. Obviously, it was a big step back. I felt I was going to win the fight, and it was a tough loss for me.”
Now, following the loss, Otto Wallin says he wants to be active in 2024 and start to get back into the title mix at heavyweight.
“The plan is for me to fight again in the summer, and my management, Fighters First Management, has just started working with a promoter in Texas,” Wallin said. “They’re going to have their first show there in late March – March 30, I think – and then they’re going to have another date there in the summer. I’m supposed to have another fight there, get back in the ring, and get a win, and hopefully I get something bigger in the fall.”
According to Otto Wallin, he says he hasn’t thought of potential opponents for his return fight. But, the Swede just wants big matchups to prove he still is a top heavyweight contender.
“I haven’t thought too much about names right now, but I feel like I’m a top-10 guy, so I feel like I’m ready to fight almost anyone,” Wallin said. “I just want good fights. I’m 33 now, so I feel like I’m ready for big fights and capitalizing on the division that’s buzzing right now. And a lot of good things are happening in Saudi Arabia [where Wallin fought Joshua], but I haven’t really thought about specific names.”
