Otto Wallin’s Promoter Says Dillian Whyte’s Injury Is Suspicious
Otto Wallin was supposed to box Dillian Whyte next Saturday but that won’t happen now.
This week it was revealed Whyte was out of the fight with an injury he sustained doing his training camp in Portugal. The news surprised many as the winner of Whyte-Wallin would be facing Tyson Fury next, however, Wallin’s promoter says he is suspicious of Whyte’s injury and Dmitry Salita, the promoter, has requested medical evidence of the injury.
“We believe the WBC will make the right decision instead of giving Dillian Whyte a straight-ahead journey to Tyson Fury,” Salita said (via manchestereveningnews). “Dillian Whyte should not be rewarded with a fight with Tyson Fury based on having an injury, legitimate or not.
“What makes [the injury] a bit suspicious is that there’s been rumors for weeks about Dillian Whyte pulling out of the fight, and he even said ‘I could pull out of the fight and fight Tyson Fury next, but I’m not going to because I’m a man.’ I had 38 professional fights, this week is just to stay sharp, shadow box, hit the bags a little bit, and be ready for fight week. So that he gets injured in such a way doesn’t seem to be in line with traditional boxing practices. Even if he is legitimately injured – it’s a possibility – the fight should be rescheduled at a later date,” Salita continued.
The WBC will rule shortly on whether or not Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin will be rescheduled, or perhaps Whyte will box Fury next. The Brit is the interim WBC heavyweight champion and he said he was devasted having to pull out.
“I am devastated as I had a great camp, was in great shape, and had great sparring. I was looking forward to knocking Wallin out and would have done so in the first half of the fight,” Whyte said. “I am devastated about not being able to fight on October 30 but I want to thank everyone for all of their support.”
