Paulie Malignaggi Thinks David Benavidez Would Run Through Canelo Alvarez
Paulie Malignaggi is confident David Benavidez would run through Canelo Alvarez if the two end up fighting.
Alvarez vs. Benavidez is a fight many fans would like to see, but Malignaggi doesn’t think it would be all that competitive. Instead, he believes Benavidez would run through Alvarez and make the fight look easy.
“It’s not that important for me to watch Canelo get beaten like a rag doll,” Malignaggi said onProBox TV’s “Deep Waters,” via BoxingScene. “I think he gets hammered… I don’t think [Canelo’s] going to fight [Benavidez]. [Benavidez] runs him over like a train. He might as well do it for $150 million.”
Although Paulie Malignaggi thinks David Benavidez would run through Canelo Alvarez, a fight between the two seems unlikely. Instead, Alvarez has shut down the fight saying Benavidez does nothing for him.
“No, nothing is true. I don’t know where you got that. Never, never, never,” Alvarez said. “Not that I know, and I know everything. He offered that amount, he say? That amount, I can make with anybody. That has nothing. “[Benavidez] brings nothing to the table for me. He brings just 25 pounds more on that night. That’s it. It’s not him because he has nothing to offer me, anything. I’m the one. But if one promoter who I work with comes and offers me $150 million to $200 million, I’ll fight tomorrow. That’s the only reason I would fight with him because the only thing he brings to the table is 25 pounds.”
Canelo Alvarez is set to return to the ring on May 4 in Las Vegas against Jamie Munguia.
