Promoter: Jose Canseco Made Over $1 Million In TKO Loss At Rough N’ Rowdy Event
Jose Canseco made over a million dollars for 10-seconds of work on Friday night.
In the main event of Rough N’ Rowdy 13, a boxing event put on Barstool Sports, the former MLB star took on Billy Football an intern at Barstool. In the lead-up to the fight, Canseco made it clear he was looking to get a first-round KO win. However, Football made it clear he was going to shock the world which he did.
“I have a very, very competitive side to me that’s gonna come out Friday night,” Billy Football told TMZ Sports about Jose Canseco. “I think I’m gonna shock Jose. Jose has misjudged me and I think — as a lot of people would — they don’t actually know who I am and what I can sort of accomplish. It’s gonna be very fun to shock the world and show everyone that ‘Oh, hey this guy’s for real’. This isn’t just some s***-show that got thrown together.”
When the opening bell rang, Billy Football blitzed Canseco and hit landed a hard punch that dropped Canseco. However, when Canseco fell down, he claimed his shoulder was torn and the fight was over.
After the fight, Canseco said he tore his shoulder three to four months ago but thought he could still fight. Yet, the fight was only put together on a months’ notice so Dave Portnoy, who is the founder of Barstool Sports was upset with the performance and thought Canseco’s pay structure would make it a good fight.
“So here is how @JoseCanseco got paid last night. 50k guarantee. He got 50k more if he won. He also had a rev share if we broke our record for PPV buys.We shattered it.Get ready to puke. Jose made over 1 million dollars for 5 seconds last night. I don’t feel bad for him anymore,” Portnoy tweeted.
It is unlikely Jose Canseco will be fight at a Rough N’ Rowdy event again.
