Randy Couture Praises Francis Ngannou For Getting Tyson Fury Boxing Match
Former UFC champion Randy Couture has nothing but praise for Francis Ngannou.
After Ngannou fought out his UFC deal, he was adamant in wanting to box which the Las Vegas-based promotion wasn’t a fan of. With that, Ngannou walked away in free agency and signed with PFL who allowed him to take a boxing match, which Couture is proud of.
“I think he’s done the right thing,” Couture said to MiddleEasy. “He stood up for himself, he stood up for our sport. There have been several other athletes that were in position to do that and passed and didn’t do it. I’m proud of him for doing that, sticking to his guns. It wasn’t about the money, it was about all the other stuff that he’s mentioned and I’ve certainly mentioned and stood up for myself.”
Francis Ngannou did end up securing a boxing match as he will face Tyson Fury on October 28 in Saudi Arabia. It is a massive fight and Randy Couture knows it is a tough fight for Francis Ngannou, but praises Ngannou for getting the boxing match.
“Yeah, I think it’s a big step up, honestly,” Couture said. “This guy’s been boxing at that level and he is arguably the best boxer in the world right now, and has been at the top of that game for quite a while. What he did with [Deontay] Wilder and all those matches, his technique, he’s long, he’s rangy, he moves his head and his feet well, he’s gonna be hard to hit. Francis has got a lot of work to do to get ready and get sharp for that.”
Francis Ngannou has said he will make more money than his entire UFC career which is why Randy Couture is so happy about the former UFC champ getting the Tyson Fury fight.
