Regis Prograis Says Josh Taylor Rematch Has To Happen: ‘A Lot Of People Keep Telling Me That I Really Won The Fight’
Regis Prograis wants the rematch with Josh Taylor.
On Saturday, Taylor beat Jose Ramirez to unify the 140-pound division and many wondered who would be next. Prograis believes he should rematch Taylor as people keep telling him he won the fight. The two, of course, fought in 2019 at the 02 where Taylor won a majority decision in a scrap that could’ve gone either way which is why he believes the rematch has to happen.
“I think the rematch has to happen,” Prograis told co-hosts Randy Gordon and Gerry Cooney during an appearance Monday on “At The Fights,” which streams weekdays on SiriusXM (via BoxingScene). “You know, for me, he just beat up Jose Ramirez, he beat up everybody. I mean, the only person that really tested him was me, you know? So, I think, you know, we have to have a rematch. And listen, for me, a lot of people keep telling me that I really won the fight.
“You know, and even if I really lost the fight, I would still be chasing the rematch. Don’t get me wrong. Even if he just really beat me clearly, I would still chase the rematch,” Prograis continued. “But, you know, a lot of people keep telling me, ‘Man, you won that fight. And you this, and you that.’ So, for me, I’m a competitor and I’m prideful, and I just have to have that rematch. So, that’s why I really want it.”
Regis Prograis is coming off a TKO win over Ivan Redkach. It was originally a decision win but got overturned to a TKO after an incorrect ref call said Prograis landed an illegal low blow, but video replay showed it was a legal body shot. Prior to that, he TKO’d Juan Heraldez in the third round to get back into the win column after losing to Taylor.
