Report: Anthony Joshua, Oleksandr Usyk Finalizing Contracts For September 25 Fight
The heavyweight title fight between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk is almost finalized.
The pair are set to collide for Joshua’s heavyweight titles on September 25 with the likely venue being the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.
And as per The Athletic, both camps are reviewing the contracts with Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn also revealing contracts would be signed this week.
Usyk is Joshua’s WBO mandatory and received the title shot after an arbitrator ruled that Tyson Fury was obligated to fight Deontay Wilder in a trilogy instead of a title unification clash with Joshua.
The former unified cruiserweight champion moved up to heavyweight in 2019 and has gone 2-0 after wins over Chazz Witherspoon and Derek Chisora. However, he hasn’t looked impressive in either of those fights.
As for Joshua, he is coming off an impressive knockout win over Kubrat Pulev in December. It was his first title defense since regaining his belts from Andy Ruiz Jr. a year prior.
The winner should ideally go on to face the winner of the Fury vs. Wilder trilogy and unify the division once and for all.
