Report: Canelo Alvarez vs. Caleb Plant Will Air On Showtime PPV
Canelo Alvarez vs. Caleb Plant is set to air live on Showtime PPV.
Canelo vs. Plant will take place on Nov. 6. The bout will determine the undisputed super-middleweight Champion. Canelo holds the WBA, WBC, and WBO Titles, while Plant is the IBF Champion.
Mike Coppinger is reporting that Showtime PPV will be getting the rights to broadcast the mega title fight.
“Sources: Canelo Alvarez-Caleb Plant on Nov. 6 will be a Showtime PPV. The vast majority of PBC’s major PPVs have been carried by Fox recently. PBC’s deal with Fox expires at the end of the year, though Fox holds a network option for a fourth year.”
Canelo has been on Showtime before. When the Mexican star had issues with DAZN and Golden Boy, Showtime Sports President Stephen Espinoza told Forbes he’d welcome back Canelo with open arms.
“We’d love to. We’re proud of the time we spent with Canelo,” Espinoza said. “We did some important fights in his career, and we helped launch him as a PPV attraction in the U.S. We’d love to be in business with him again. We’re obviously going to respect his existing contracts. We’re not going to run afoul of that. If there’s a time when he’s available, we’ll be very aggressive. We have a lot of offer. But the time to pursue that is only after it’s clear he’s contractually able to do so.
“There haven’t been any conversations,” Espinoza said. “As soon as there’s some clarity, we’d love to have the discussion.”
Canelo remained on DAZN despite getting out of his prior deal. That’s because Canelo works with Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing. Canelo vs. Plant is happening on Showtime PPV as part of a deal to make this bout happen since Plant is signed with the Premier Boxing Champions promotion.
