Canelo Alvarez‘s next fight could anger boxing purists, a recent report states.
Alvarez was rumored to be moving up to cruiserweight to face Ilunga Makabu to become a five-division world champion. However, nothing has come from that and recently, reports suggested a defense against Jermall Charlo back at super-middleweight may be more likely.
Now, however, according to a new report, Alvarez’s next opponent could anger boxing purists, and Jake Paul reacted to it which caused many to think he is the opponent.
After the news came out about the fight, Paul took to social media to respond to the post which only added to many thinking the YouTuber is getting the fight.
This is a fight that Paul has talked about in the past as he thought it would happen years down the road but perhaps it is coming sooner rather than later.
“I just want to continue to be the most disruptive boxer in the history of the sport,” Paul said to TMZ. “I think it’s taking it on a fight-by-fight basis. Continuing to build these fights and make them even bigger, even bigger… I’m open-minded and I think anything is possible. I think I could be fighting against Canelo Alvarez for the WBC or WBO championship belt.”
Canelo Alvarez has also talked about potentially fighting Jake Paul but he didn’t think the timing was right as he thought Paul needed more work.
“Not right now,” Canelo told the paparazzi after being asked if Jake has a chance against him according to TMZ’s translations. “He’s not ready.”
Who and when Alvarez will fight next is uncertain. But, after all this talk about how purists won’t like his opponent, many are intrigued to find out.
