Report: George Kambosos Jr. Pushing For Six-Figure Increase For Moved Teofimo Lopez Fight
There is a new twist in the Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos Jr. saga.
It was recently revealed that the lightweight title fight promoted by Triller would no longer take place October 4 — which is notably on a Monday — in New York’s Madison Square Garden with reported plans to move it to October 16 at the Barclays Center.
However, as per Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, Kambosos is looking for a six-figure increase in order to go along with the new fight date.
The champion, meanwhile, has already signed off on the new date.
“George Kambosos is pushing for a six-figure increase in his purse to fight Teofimo Lopez on October 16th, two sources familiar with the discussions told @SInow. Lopez has already signed off on the new date.”
With the new October 16 date, it marks the sixth time a different date has been attached to this fight which has been in the offing for ages.
And given all the disruptions and changes, it’s understandable that Kambosos would like to be compensated better.
Whether he gets what he wants remains to be seen, though.
