Report: George Kambosos Jr. Set To Defend Titles Against Vasiliy Lomachenko In June
George Kambosos Jr. is set for his first title defense — and it will take place in his home country of Australia as well.
According to a Tuesday report by ESPN, Kambosos will defend his WBA, IBF and WBO lightweight titles against Vasiliy Lomachenko.
It will take place June 5 at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.
Although the fight isn’t confirmed or official, Lomachenko is said to have agreed to a deal.
Additionally, the fight will include a rematch clause for a bout that will take place in Australia once again should Kambosos lose.
Kambosos is yet to agree to the deal as of now while WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney is also a frontrunner to face him.
However, as things stand, it looks like Lomachenko will be next — especially after the promoter of Kambosos, Lou DiBella recently stated they had moved on from the Haney fight.
Kambosos became the lightweight champion after outpointing former champion Teofimo Lopez by split decision back in November.
Lomachenko lost his lightweight titles to Lopez via unanimous decision back in October 2020. However, the Ukrainian has since bounced back with impressive victories over Masayoshi Nakatani and Richard Commey.
What do you think of this fight? Does George Kambosos Jr. get past Vasiliy Lomachenko?
