Bob Arum Confirms Oscar Valdez vs. Shakur Stevenson Plans
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum — who promotes Stevenson — would later confirm with World Boxing News that it was the fight they were looking to do.
“Shakur, I think the fight for him is against Valdez and that would be a corker and I’d love to get that fight done,” Arum told World Boxing News. “That’s what we’re looking to do, yeah. I think before the end of April.”
Valdez is the current WBC super featherweight champion and most recently defended his title in a unanimous decision win over Robson Conceicao in September.
There was plenty of controversy leading up to the fight as regulators allowed it to take place despite Valdez testing positive for a banned substance.
Stevenson, meanwhile, recently won the WBO super featherweight title after TKOing Jamal Herring in the 10th round of their October contest.
Both Valdez and Stevenson remain undefeated with respective 30-0 and 17-0 professional records.
