Report: Vasiliy Lomachenko Still Planning On Fighting George Kambosos Jr.
Vasiliy Lomachenko is still looking to fight George Kambosos Jr.
Although it initially looked like Lomachenko would face Kambosos for the latter’s lightweight titles in June, that appeared to be no longer the case.
That’s because Lomachenko was in Ukraine helping his home country against the ongoing invasion by Russia.
It then appeared that Devin Haney would be the one to face Kambosos in a lightweight title unification bout.
However, as per ESPN, efforts are being made by Lomachenko’s team to allow him to leave Ukraine to train for a fight with Kambosos.
Although Lomachenko initially agreed to his side of the deal prior to the invasion, Kambosos still hadn’t signed on the dotted line.
“Officials involved with the bout require that a Kambosos opponent be locked in by the end of March to allow for the typical eight-week promotional push, sources said. If there’s no clarity regarding Lomachenko’s ability to leave Ukraine and set up training camp by next week, talks will intensify with Haney, who is promoted by Eddie Hearn, according to sources.”
With that said, ESPN states Lomachenko remains the priority of Kambosos.
With just a few weeks left for March to conclude, it appears we’ll find out who Kambosos will defend his lightweight titles against very soon.
