Report: Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Richard Commey Likely For Dec. 11
The next fight for Vasiliy Lomachenko appears close to being a done deal.
Dan Rafael is reporting that Lomachenko vs. Commey is being planned for Dec. 11. This would be promoted by Top Rank Boxing. It would also be Lomachenko’s second bout since losing his lightweight titles to Teofimo Lopez back in October 2020.
“Per sources, Lomachenko likely will face former lightweight world titlist Richard Commey on Dec. 11.”
Commey rebounded from his second-round knockout loss to Lopez. He defeated Jackson Marinez via sixth-round knockout. The former IBF Lightweight Champion is looking to get back in title contention and a massive upset win over Lomachenko would help him get there.
Vasiliy Lomachenko recently proved that he isn’t damaged goods by any means. He turned in a dominant performance against Masayoshi Nakatani, stopping him in the ninth round. It marked the first time Nakatani has been stopped and many agreed that he’s never taken a beating quite like the one Lomachaneko put on him.
After the victory over Nakatani, “Loma” said a rematch with Lopez makes sense (via Ring Magazine).
“I’m happy because I won. All the strategies that we developed with my team (worked). I reached all my goals. I won and now I’m back on track.
“Everybody saw how I won this fight, and everybody is waiting for the rematch (with Lopez), so let’s make a rematch. He has a fight in the future with Kambosos, but how about after, in the beginning of next year. December, January, February, I am waiting. I’m happy about this if they are ready to give me a rematch after all I’ve done, after this fight. I am happy about this opportunity.”
As Lomachenko mentioned, Lopez is scheduled to put his gold on the line against George Kambosos. The problem is, Lopez is having issues with Triller in regards to the location and date of the fight.
