Robert Garcia Interested In Training Errol Spence Jr.
Robert Garcia is interested in training Errol Spence Jr., following the former world champion splitting with Derrick James.
Spence is coming off a stoppage loss to Terence Crawford and has not fought since. He was dropped three times in that fight and since then, he parted ways with his trainer Derrick James. Now, Garcia says he’s open to training Spence as he believes the former champ needs a change.
“If he reached out to me, I would definitely consider speaking and talking to him,” Garcia said to 210 Boxing of Spence. “I would love to, because those are challenges for me, too. Look at Marcos Maidana. He had the best paydays of his life when he came to me. Sometimes fighters need something like that. Maybe Spence needs something like that.”
Robert Garcia knows Errol Spence already has a great style and he feels like the two of them could have success together.
“He already has a great style, Garcia said. “He was, pound for pound, one of the best fighters in the world. It’s just little touches. Honestly, it would be a challenge for me, too. … I would love to talk to him about putting something together… I have a team, too, but I’ll talk to my team and everything. Why not? There are still so many things that he can still do.”
Errol Spence is 28-1 and before the loss to Crawford, he beat Yordenis Ugas by TKO. He also holds notable wins over Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter, and Mikey Garcia.
