Robson Conceicao Believes Shakur Stevenson Is Underestimating Him: ‘That’s Gonna Be The Biggest Mistake Of His Career’
Robson Conceicao is confident he will upset Shakur Stevenson.
Conceicao is going to Stevenson’s hometown of Newark, New Jersey as he will fight for the WBO and WBC super featherweight title, although Stevenson missed weight so he won’t be fighting for the title.
In the lead-up to the scrap, Stevenson has vowed to beat the s**t out of Conceicao and admits he was surprised that the Brazilian won a gold medal.
“He kinda a surprised me because I had sparred him leading up to the Olympics,” Stevenson told BoxingScene.com. “I had sparred him in Brazil, and I didn’t think he was that good. He surprised me by winning the Olympic gold medal.”
With that, Robson Conceicao thinks Shakur Stevenson is overlooking him which will come back to hurt him in the end. The Brazilian is confident he will shock the world as he is a massive underdog as Stevenson is around a -2000 favorite.
“Shakur is definitely underestimating me,” Conceicao told BoxingScene.com through a translator. “That’s gonna be the biggest mistake of his career, underestimating a man like me, who’s really willing and hungry to win. He never really faced anyone like me, an athlete of this caliber, and that’s gonna be his downfall.”
Not only does Robson Conceicao think he can upset Shakur Stevenson, but he believes the American is overlooking him because he is jealous because Stevenson didn’t win gold.
“It could be a little bit of jealousy,” Conceicao said. “I won gold and he didn’t. So, now he thinks he’s the best. I sense a little jealousy… I think that he offers a great challenge. He’s not a bad fighter. I can’t take nothing away from him. He’s awkward. He’s not an easy style to deal with for anybody. But at the end of the day, he’s going against me, so I’m not too much worried.”
