Rolly Romero Open To Moving Up To 147: ‘That’s Where All The Fun Is’
Rolly Romero is open to going up to 147lbs as he knows that is where the biggest fights are for him.
Romero is set to take on Isaac Cruz on Saturday as he looks to defend his WBA super lightweight title for the first time. Entering the fight, Romero is the betting underdog, but he has confidence he can pull off the upset.
Should Romero win, he is fine staying at this weight class, but he also says he will move up to 147lbs as he knows that is where the fun fights are.
“I was killing myself to make 135 real bad, and it’s been like that for a good many [fights],” Romero said (via BoxingScene). “I want to go to 147 – that’s where all the fun is. I will go to 147, I’ll stay at 140, I’ll do whatever. You know I ain’t ducking anybody.”
Ultimately, Romero needs to beat Cruz first to get those big fights at 147lbs. But, he believes he will beat Cruz with ease to defend his title for the first time.
“This is the first motherfucker I don’t got to go and chase,” Rolly quipped. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. I ain’t got to set traps; he sets himself up for them. What do you think he’s going to do? Do you think he’s going to go out there and try and box, thinking he’s Floyd [Mayweather] or something? Or is he going to come in headfirst like he always does? I don’t got to set traps. He’s already set up.”
Rolly Romero enters this fight with a 15-1 record and coming off a TKO win over Ismael Barroso after a stoppage loss to Gervonta Davis.
