Ryan Garcia Calls Manny Pacquiao His ‘Dream Fight’
Ryan Garcia is hoping to fight Manny Pacquiao before the boxing legend calls it a career.
Garcia is one of the best lightweights in boxing and is coming off a TKO win over Luke Campbell to become the interim WBC lightweight champion. Although he is the mandatory for Devin Haney, Garcia has called for a fight with Gervonta Davis but now lists Pacquiao as a possible opponent.
“That’s the dream. Manny is a legend and it would be like surpassing him in the humblest way. I don’t want this to sound like I’m being disrespectful, Manny knows my respect for him,” Garcia told ES News (via boxingscene). “People love him because he fights with his heart. You don’t even have to tell people to respect him, because more than one entire country supports him.”
If Garcia and Pacquiao do end up fighting, it would be a massive fight. However, they are two weight classes apart despite being the Filipino being a small welterweight. Pacquiao, though did fight at 135-pounds to begin his career, but it is likely Garcia would move to 147-pounds to fight the legend and make his dream come true.
As mentioned, Ryan Garcia is coming off the win over Luke Campbell. The win improved his record to 21-0 with 18 knockouts. Campbell is no doubt the biggest win of his career and proved he is a legit contender at 135-pounds. The 22-year-old also holds a notable win over Francisco Fonseca and Romero Duno.
Manny Pacquiao, meanwhile, is 62-7-2 as a pro but has not fought since July of 2019 when he defeated Keith Thurman by split decision. He is on a three-fight winning streak and has called for a fight with Conor McGregor in the near future.
For now, Garcia vs. Pacquiao seems unlikely to happen.
