Ryan Garcia vs Devin Haney 2 doesn’t interest Oscar De La Hoya
Boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya isn’t interested in seeing Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney square off again.
Last year, Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney met in a professional boxing setting for the first time. In their days as amateurs, they split their series 3-3. In the aforementioned pro fight, it was Garcia who shocked the world and managed to defeat Haney in what proved to be one of the best performances of his career.
Ever since then, however, his win has been turned to a no contest after Ryan Garcia failed a drug test. Despite that, many are still interested in seeing them run it back at some point down the road.
One man who doesn’t want to see it, however, is none other than the always-opinionated Oscar De La Hoya.
Oscar De La Hoya questions Ryan Garcia vs Devin Haney rematch
“If Ryan Garcia wants it and that’s what he wants,” said Oscar De La Hoya to Fight Hub TV when asked what he thinks of a Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney rematch in 2025. “Me personally, I see no need for it. Ryan destroyed him, and that’s the bottom line.
“We have to make the best fights possible. There are fighters here like, Teofimo. There are fighters that we can match Ryan with anyone and make a terrific event.
“Yeah, absolutely. If they [Ryan and Teofimo] are the best at the moment, and that’s what people want to see, we have to make it. I sound like a broken record here, but I was once a fighter. I’m a promoter now, but I want to see the best fight the best,” said De La Hoya.
