Ryan Garcia Has Successful Surgery, Plans To ‘Return Better’ In 2022
Ryan Garcia was forced to pull out of his November 27 fight against Joseph Diaz due to an injury, and he had a successful surgery.
Garcia and Diaz were set to fight for the interim WBC lightweight title, a belt Garcia won in his previous fight back in January against Luke Campbell but was stripped of the belt due to inactivity. However, during his training camp, he hurt his hand and wrist and was discharged from Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Surgery Center on Monday after having a successful surgery.
“Massive success,” Garcia wrote on social media on Monday. “Now I have danger in both hands. Beware! I’m very happy.”
Garcia then added that is looking to return next year and plans to be better than ever.
“I promise early 2022, I will return better,” Garcia said. “Very unlucky for me this year, breaking my hand from sparring just sealed the deal for this year. I won’t let this stop me from accomplishing my dreams. It’s a bad chapter but not the end of my book.”
This is just the latest setback in Ryan Garcia’s career who looks to be a promising fighter in the stacked lightweight division. The 23-year-old is 21-0 as a pro and coming off the biggest win of his career as he knocked out Luke Campbell with a body shot. He also overcame adversity in the fight as he was knocked down for the first time in his career.
When Garcia does return is uncertain as he is just focused on his rehab for now. Who he also fights is also unknown but there is no question he will have options. He has been open about calling out the likes of Tank Davis, Devin Haney, and Teofimo Lopez as he wants to prove he is the best at the weight class.
