Ryan Garcia Responds To Canelo Alvarez Criticism: ‘I Don’t Take Anything Personal’
Ryan Garcia had no problem with the recent criticism he received from Canelo Alvarez.
Alvarez recently surprised many with his comments about Garcia and how he was wasting a lot of time as well as his talent.
“Look, Ryan has a lot of talent. But to me in my eyes, he’s wasting a lot of time and wasting his talent,” Alvarez said. “I look at him and don’t see him 100 percent dedicated and, to us, that’s a bad signal. We always remind him as a team to come to the gym, to train, and to learn because you need to be in the gym.
“You’re learning day-by-day, at the very minimum fighting five times a year. When I was beginning my career, I did 15 fights in one year. That’s where I was at the beginning of my career. So definitely he needs to be a little more dedicated.”
It took a bit of a while, but Garcia finally responded to the super middleweight champion’s criticism publicly by taking it constructively (via Michael Benson).
“I understand where he’s coming from,” Garcia said. “It’s always all love. I don’t take anything personal. I just know that I had a hard year. But I’m fully recovered mentally.
“When I get back I am coming for everybody’s heads. Destroy them.”
Garcia is coming off a surgery after a hand injury forced him out of a November 27 fight with Joseph Diaz.
Prior to that, the 23-year-old pulled out of his July fight with Javier Fortuna in order to focus on his mental health. However, he is now targeting a comeback in early 2022.
Garcia last competed in January when he defeated Luke Campbell.
