Ryan Garcia Says Gervonta Davis ‘May Be Easier’ Than Luke Campbell
Ryan Garcia believes Gervonta Davis could be easier than his fight with Luke Campbell.
Garcia’s biggest win of his career was his seventh-round knockout over Campbell. Yet, ahead of his matchup against Davis, many have been critical of Garcia’s opponents as they believe Davis is a massive step up in competition.
However, Garcia believes Campbell could be a tougher matchup than Davis when all is said and done.
“You know, Luke Campbell, you gotta understand that it causes different problems,” Garcia told a small group of reporters after a press conference Wednesday at Palladium Times Square (h/t BoxingScene). “He’s a taller fighter. His shots will hit me at a different range. [Davis] has to really come up and hit me. It’s much different. It’s a much different fight. So, you never know – this one may be easier. You just don’t know. Yes, at face value he’s the tougher fighter, you know, on paper. But you just don’t know. You just don’t know.”
In the fight, Campbell dropped Garcia which was an important lesson for Garcia to learn to overcome adversity. Along with that, two of Ryan Garcia’s past three fights have been against southpaws which were intentional to help him prepare for Gervonta Davis.
“I did that on purpose,” Garcia said, “just so I could have, you know, more of a feel for a southpaw, where the punches are coming. And, you know, everything was preparation for this big fight.”
Ryan Garcia (23-0) is coming off a sixth-round KO win over Javier Fortuna and before that, earned a decision win over Emmanuel Tagoe. He is the former WBC interim lightweight champion – which he won by knocking out Campbell in January of 2021. He also holds notable wins over Francisco Fonseca and Romero Duno among others.
Do you think Ryan Garcia will beat Gervonta Davis on April 22?
