Ryan Garcia vs. Javier Fortuna Agreed To For July 16
Ryan Garcia will be returning to the ring on July 16.
According to BoxingScene, Garcia has agreed to face Javier Fortuna on July 16 at Crypto.com Arena, formerly known as the Staples Center in Los Angeles. An official announcement is expected to happen in the coming days but according to the report all parties have agreed to the deal.
This is also a fight that has been in the making for quite some time as they were booked last July at nearby Banc of California Stadium on USC campus in Los Angeles. However, Garcia was forced out of the bout due to mental health issues and Fortuna ended up staying on the card and lost to Joseph Diaz Jr.
Ryan Garcia (22-0) is coming off a decision win over Emmanuel Tagoe back in April in Texas. Prior to that, he won the WBC interim lightweight title with a seventh-round TKO win over Luke Campbell but vacated the belt after taking time off for his mental health. He also holds notable wins over Francisco Fonseca, Romero Duno, and Jayson Velez.
Should Garcia win on July 16, the hope for many boxing fans is he will face Tank Davis as the two have been jawing at one another.
Javier Fortuna (36-3-1 and two No Contests) is coming off the decision loss to Diaz Jr. for the interim WBC lightweight title. Prior to that, he was on a three-fight win streak with wins over Antonio Lozada Jr., Jesus Cuellar, and Sharif Bogere. In his career, he holds notable wins over Carlos Velasquez, Bryan Vasquez, and Francisco Lorenzo.
